We can determine the Noise Reduction Coefficient of your furniture ensembles, work pods, or acoustic treatments in our qualified reverberation chamber. North Orbit Acoustic Laboratories can also customize our acoustic testing to fit your needs. Not sure if we can help?
As people return to their open-plan offices, the demand for quiet spaces in the sometimes chaotic workplace is increasing. Manufacturers of work pods and other sound isolation ensembles are using the newly published ISO 23351-1:2020 to quantify the acoustic isolation properties of their products in order to differentiate themselves from the competition.
This method uses a loudspeaker (to represent a talker) with its sound power measured in our qualified reverberation chamber. We then place the furniture ensemble or work pod inside the chamber and measure the same test signal from inside the product. Calculations result in weighted level reductions in one-octave frequency bands and an overall weighted speech level reduction in decibels. This measurement results in a publishable, one-number rating that can be used for research and marketing.
In addition to the speech level testing described above, we also provide conventional acoustic tests, including sound absorption coefficients per ASTM C423 and sound transmission loss of building elements per ASTM E90
Engineers and designers of work pods and furniture ensembles use the one-number rating generated by ISO 23351-1 to improve their products and help set them apart from their competition. This test method uses the laboratory analysis to facilitate comparison of the enclosure or ensemble so they can be effectively evaluated.
Interior designers rely on accurate ratings in order to meet client demands. Having an apples-to-apples way of comparing furniture ensembles ensures that expectations can be met.
Open-plan offices and specialized-use work spaces are addressing an occupants need for quiet, distraction-free areas of refuge. Providing a place for private communication is a must for most work places.
